Global Base Oils Cargo Flows: Week To 24 April

  • Saudi Arabia remained the only active base oils export source in the Middle East, with cargoes heading to India and Fujairah

  • Taiwan's cargo loadings slowed sharply in second-half April, with just one cargo loading so far

  • A large Qatar cargo reached Singapore for the first time in more than a month, despite the pause in loadings from the Middle East country since end-February

Asia

·         Cargo with a combination of light and heavy Group II base oils set to load from Taiwan in the coming days, with China the likely destination.

·         Cargo is the first in second-half April, amid a sharp slowdown in flows compared with first-half April.

·         Large cargo loaded from Taiwan in early April before heading to India, set to arrive in the coming days.

·         Singapore took delivery of an unusually large cargo from Qatar in the past week, with the shipment the first in more than a month and the largest this year.

·         Cargo loaded from South Korea around mid-March before heading to the US Gulf coast, set to arrive in the coming days.

·         Cargo-loadings from South Korea to the US in April showed signs of falling from March levels.

·         Total cargo-loadings from South Korea so far in April would need to rise sharply in the coming days to avoid lagging March volumes.

Middle East/Europe

·         Large cargo loaded from Saudi Arabia in the past week before heading to India, set to arrive by end-April.

·         Cargo loaded from Saudi Arabia last week before heading to Fujairah, arrived in recent days.

·         Large cargo set to load from Saudi Arabia in the coming days, with the size of the shipment pointing to India as the likely destination.

·         The loadings were set to keep Saudi Arabia’s export volumes elevated in April.

·         Cargo of very-light-grade base oils loaded from Spain around mid-April before heading to India, likely to arrive by end-May.

Americas

·         Cargo loaded from eastern US in second-half March before heading to Nigeria, arrived this week.

·         Cargo loaded from US Gulf coast in second-half March before heading to South Africa, arrived in recent days.

·         Cargo of Group I base oils loaded from Argentina last week, with the shipment bound for Brazil.
