Global Base Oils Cargo Flows: Week To 21 August

  • India continued to load or line up cargoes for a growing number of destinations, extending its emergence as a key swing supplier

  • Saudi Arabia's loadings stayed unusually low through August, while Taiwan's slowdown extended into a second week ahead of a seasonal pick-up in demand in the coming weeks

  • Shipments from Europe to Singapore picked up again after slowing earlier in the third quarter

Asia

·         A slowdown in cargo loadings from Taiwan extended into a second week, leaving total August volumes relatively low so far.

·         An unusually large cargo loaded from Singapore in the past week before heading to Hong Kong.

·         The last time a cargo of this size moved from Singapore to Hong Kong was in 2023.

·         There was an enquiry for a vessel to load a cargo from South Korea in second-half September before heading to the Baltic market.

·         A cargo of Group III base oils loaded from Indonesia in early July before heading to Northwest Europe via South Africa, set to arrive in the coming days.  

·         A cargo loaded from South Korea in mid-August before heading to the US Gulf coast, set to arrive in second-half September.

India/Middle East

·         A large cargo was set to load from India in the coming days, with the US a likely destination.  

·         A smaller cargo was also set to load from India in the coming days, with Southeast Asia a possible destination.  

·         A cargo loaded from India in first-half August, bound for Italy via southern Africa, set to arrive in second-half September.

·         There was an enquiry for vessels for prompt loading of cargoes from India before moving to the Middle East or West Africa.

·         A cargo loaded from Saudi Arabia in mid-July before heading to Northwest Europe, arrived in recent days.

·         A cargo loaded from Saudi Arabia in recent days before heading to Egypt, set to arrive next week.

·         Total cargo-loadings from Saudi Arabia remained unusually low so far in August.

Europe/Americas

·         A cargo of premium-grade base oils loaded from Spain this week before heading to a port in Spain.

·         A large cargo loaded from Northwest Europe around mid-August before heading to Singapore, set to arrive in second-half September.

·         Total cargo loadings from US to Europe showed signs of rising so far in August compared with June and July.
