Esso SAF (Esso), a unit of ExxonMobil, plans to start producing re-refined base oils at its Gravenchon refinery in northern France by second-half 2025, the company said in a statement.

Esso plans to reconfigure an existing production unit at the refinery to produce the base oils.

The volume and specifications of the base oils were not disclosed.

The Gravenchon refinery is home to one of Europe’s largest base oils units, that produces mostly Group I base oils.

Esso plans to source its used lubricants feedstock through a long-term supply contract with Eco Huile, which itself operates a 125,000 tonnnes/year re-refinery in nearby Lillebonne.
