HOUSTON, TX – November 20, 2025 — Vertex Energy, Inc. (“Vertex” or the “Company”) today announced the successful completion and start-up of its Mobile, Alabama hydrocracker in base oil mode, producing a Group III re-refined base oil (“RRBO”).
This marks a significant step in fully integrating Vertex’s platform: collecting used motor oil (“UMO”) through its wholly owned UMO collection operations, refining it to vacuum gas oil (“VGO”) at the Marrero, Louisiana refinery, and processing it at the Mobile, Alabama refinery to produce Group III base oils.
Vertex’s debut base stock, VTX-R4, is a 4cSt Group III base oil that delivers excellent coldtemperature and volatility performance.
As a domestic producer and supplier of Group III base oils, together with its strategic Gulf Coast location and established logistics infrastructure, the Company is positioned to meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets.
Capital improvements supporting Group III base oil production have also enabled Vertex to add conventional hydrocracked vacuum gas oil (VGO) to its product slate.
The Mobile refinery will continue producing and marketing gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel, maintaining Vertex’s role as a reliable regional supplier.
“This achievement reflects the talent, hard work, and dedication of the entire team in driving our next phase of growth,” said Mark Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Vertex.
“Group III base oil production optimizes our capabilities and establishes a stronger foundation for long-term value creation as a reliable domestic supplier to the lubricant market.”
“I’m extremely proud of what our team has accomplished,” added Erica Snedegar, Vice President of Business Development, who also oversees Vertex’s Base Oil Commercial Operations.
“Group III represents where the industry is heading, and delivering a U.S.-produced product like VTX-R4 reflects the collaboration, innovation, and customer focus that define Vertex today.”
Vertex’s logistics network, including terminal operations in Mobile, Alabama and Cincinnati, Ohio, enhances the Company’s ability to reliably supply customers and reinforces its position as a leading North American producer of re-refined Group III base oil based on current planned capacity.
