South Africa’s base oils imports fell back to more typical levels in July amid a dip in shipments from Europe and the Mideast Gulf.Total imports of around 28,300 kilolitres (25,100t) in July fell from close to 43,000kl the previous month, government data showed.The June volume was the highest in more than six years.The July volume was just below typical import levels of around 31,000 kl/month over the past year.Imports in July still rose by 1pc and for the eleventh time in twelve months from year-earlier levels.The rise in shipments lifted total imports to 214,640kl in the first seven months of the year, up 14pc from 188,740kl during the same period last year.Imports rose mostly because of the country’s total reliance on overseas supplies to cover its base oils requirements.Imports from the US and Asia-Pacific were relatively steady in July from the previous month.Supplies from Europe by contrast fell in July to a six-month low.There was also a pause in shipments from Saudi Arabia.Imports from that country had surged to a record-high in the second quarter of the year..Europe’s June Group I supply falls
