Germany’s lubricants and base oils output rose in December from the previous month, but was still the second-lowest in eight months.Output of 200,220t in December rose from an 18-month low of 172,120t the previous month, government data showed. Output had averaged almost 220,000 t/month in 2021.Total output of 2.65mn t in 2021 rose by 10pc from 2.40mn t the previous year and from 2.28mn t in 2019..Lubricants and base oils output exceeded 2019 levels even amid an uneven economic recovery following the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic since early 2020.Output in December got a boost from a rebound in base oils production especially compared with the previous month. Even so, base oils production remained much lower than during the first 10 months of 2021.Process oils output also surged in December from the previous month. The trend helped to meet strong domestic demand for white oils. It also boosted the share of process oils output to some 23pc of total production.
