France’s lubricating oil demand fell in May for the eleventh time in twelve months, mirroring a sustained slowdown in consumption in other key European markets.Lube consumption of 38,510t in May fell by 14pc from year-earlier levels of almost 45,000t, according to Centre Professionel des Lubrifiants (CPL).Demand was up 2pc from 37,700t in April.Consumption of automobile lubricants fell by 13pc in May from year-earlier levels and industrial oils by 15pc.The trend extended the pattern of weaker demand for lubricants used in the manufacturing sector.But a 10pc fall in consumption of passenger-car motor oils (PCMO) in May was the third monthly contraction in a row.PCMO consumption is considered to be more reflective of the state of the services sector..
