Europe’s base oils imports recovered in August as a pick-up in shipments from the Mideast Gulf and US countered a slump in supplies from Asia.Total imports from markets outside Europe rose to more than 170,000t in August, up from around 118,000t the previous month, government data showed.Imports still fell by 27pc and for a third month from year-earlier levels.The drop in shipments cut total imports to 1.21mn t in the first eight months of the year.The volume fell 10pc from 1.35mn t during the same period last year and from 1.50mn t during the same period in 2021.Imports recovered in August from July amid a rebound in shipments from the Mideast Gulf to a one-year high and from the US to a thirteen-month high.The rise in shipments countered an unusual slump in flows from Asia to a more-than four-year low of less than 10,000t.Imports from the US, Asia and Mideast Gulf accounted for more than 90pc of Europe’s imports in August.
