Global Base Oils Cargo Flows: Week To 10 July

  • Singapore imports stayed unusually strong as cargoes from Europe, China and the US contrasted with continued weak exports

  • Spain maintained its focus on supplying Europe while Indonesia's July cargo loadings rebounded after slowing in May and June

  • Slower Taiwan loadings and a dip in US shipments to India pointed to limited Asia spot supply

Asia

·         Cargo loadings from Taiwan slowed in the past week as a typhoon approached the island.

·         Cargo loaded from Taiwan in second-half June before heading to India, set to arrive in the coming days.

·         Singapore took delivery of an unusually large shipment from Europe in the past week.

·         The shipment added to a swathe of cargoes from Europe in the past four weeks, lifting total volumes during the period to the highest since end-2022.

·         Singapore also took delivery of large shipments from China and the US.

·         Cargo of Group III base oils loaded from Indonesia in early July before heading toward South Africa; the shipment is likely to then head on to Northwest Europe.

·         Shipment added to rebound in cargo loadings from Indonesia so far in July, following a slump in flows in May and June.

India/Middle East

·         Cargo loaded from India in early June before heading to Brazil, set to arrive this week.

·         Cargo loaded from Saudi Arabia in second-half June before heading to Fujairah then India, set to arrive in the coming days.

·         Cargo loaded from Saudi Arabia in early July before heading to India, set to arrive in the coming days.

Europe/Americas

·         Cargo of premium-grade base oils set to load from Spain at the end of this week, with Northwest Europe the likely destination.

·         Small cargo of premium-grade base oils loaded from Spain in recent days before heading to Italy, its first shipment to that market in more than a month.

·         Cargo loaded from Spain at end-May before heading to India, set to arrive in the coming days.

·         Slowdown in US shipments to India in April and May showed signs of extending in June, with scant volumes scheduled to arrive in July.

·         Cargo of Group I light grades and brightstock set to load from Argentina this week before heading to Brazil.

·         Cargo follows similar shipment in early July that also went to Brazil.
