US base oils output rose to a ten-month high in May following the completion of plant maintenance work the previous month.Total output of 5.06mn bl (712,400t) in May rose from 4.65mn bl the previous month and from 3.94mn bl in March, according to the EIA.The sharp recovery reflected the resumption of normal operations at a key Group II base oils unit in the US Gulf coast region following maintenance work that began in late January.A rebound in paraffinic base oils output in the Louisiana Gulf coast region reflected the impact of the restart of the plant.Output of 1.57mn bl in the region in May rose from 1.15mn bl the previous month and less than 820,000bl in February and in March.Paraffinic base oils output in the Texas Gulf coast region also extended its rise to 1.77mn bl in May.
