US base oils demand rose in September as higher export volumes countered an ongoing slowdown in domestic consumption.Domestic base oils and lube demand of 2.42mn bl (341,000t) in September fell by 16pc and for the third time in four months from year-earlier levels, according to the EIA.The contraction cut total consumption to 24.57mn bl in the first nine months of the year. The volume fell by 20pc from 30.78mn bl during the same period last year to a record low.An 11pc rise in base oils and lube exports in the first nine months of the year balanced out some of the slowdown in domestic demand.The trend helped to lift total demand, or domestic consumption and exports combined, to 5.87mn bl in September, up from 5.62mn bl the previous month.Total demand of 18.03mn bl in the third quarter of the year fell by 5pc from 18.89mn bl during the previous three months.The contraction was smaller than the 9pc fall in domestic demand during the same period..US’ Sept base oils supply falls
