Brazil’s April base oils imports hold firm

Brazil’s base oils imports held steady in April amid more balanced supply-demand fundamentals.

Total imports of 63,460mᶟ (56,210t) in April edged down from 64,250mᶟ the previous month, government data showed.

Imports mostly held around that level in each of the last six months to April.

The steady volumes boosted total shipments to 248,430mᶟ in the first four months of the year, up from 230,270mᶟ during the same period last year.

Imports fell early last year as Brazil cleared surplus supplies that had risen sharply in late-2021.

Imports were firmer this year with no such surplus to clear.

The US accounted for most of the shipments.

Premium-grade shipments from the Mideast Gulf and Asia-Pacific also accounted for a larger-than-usual share of the April supplies.
