South Korea’s base oils exports stayed lower than usual in September even as they rose to a four-month high.Total exports of 328,700t in September rose from 316,500t the previous month, government data showed.The volume fell by 21pc and for the sixth time in seven months from year-earlier levels.The drop in shipments cut total exports to 3.09mn t in the first nine months of the year.The volume fell by 5pc from 3.25mn t during the same period last year to the lowest since 2015.Exports fell this year ahead of and during a round of maintenance work on a key base oils plant in South Korea from May to July.Exports recovered in August and September following the completion of the maintenance work.But export volumes remained down from average levels of more than 390,000 t/month in the first four months of the year, before the maintenance work began.The slow pace of the recovery in exports coincided with weak base oils values versus crude and diesel prices during the third quarter of the year, ICIS data showed..Taiwan’s Sept base oil exports hold firm
